The week leading up to Easter Sunday is a great time to meditate on the death of Jesus and to prepare your heart to celebrate Jesus' resurrection.
The two books below are excellent meditations on Jesus' death and resurrection. In The Murder of Jesus, MacArthur guides you through all the events leading up to the resurrection and their significance. For many years, I read it every year.
In Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die, Piper unpacks in about 2 pages each the purposes of God behind the death of Jesus. These chapters make excellent devotionals during this week, even if you don't finish them all.
